A New Baby is a Grandparent's Delight
Rumor has it you have a new grandbaby on the way. Whether it is your first or your tenth, it is still just as exciting and you are itching to go shopping for the new little bundle. But, you're just not sure what Mom and Dad need for their baby. Fortunately, there are a few things that you can't go wrong by buying for the new baby.
Every new baby and their parents needs baby bedding. Many times, young parents on a budget forgo purchasing the baby crib set they really love because it is more money than they think they should spend. And yet, it is an item that can turn a dull, drab nursery into an exciting adventure for both baby and parents.
If you are uncertain what your daughter, or daughter-in-law, is planning for the baby nursery décor, offer to take her shopping and let her pick up the baby bedding you would like to have. She will be more than thrilled and appreciative to have you offer such a generous and thoughtful gift and the shopping trip itself will give you both an opportunity to plan and dream about the special occasion.
First time parents, especially, can never have too many crib sheets and baby blankets. If they are planning on using a bassinet in the first months after the baby is born they will need bassinette sheets and blankets as well. All of these things add up and most expecting parents are very appreciative of any help they can get.
Sharing a shopping spree with the expectant mom will give you firsthand knowledge of her taste and if you ask enough questions you will find out exactly what she needs and what she already has. This will make future shopping trips alone down the road easier. You can begin to pick up a few things here and there to give the new parents once the baby is born. At that point, the new Mom will probably take a break from planning and shopping for a little while.
When you are buying baby bedding make sure you purchase items made from high quality fabrics, preferably 100% cotton and machine washable. There are so many adorable designs available in baby crib sets it may be difficult to choose, especially if the sex of the baby has not been determined. But limiting your selection to those that are well made will help narrow your options and make the decision easier.
Solid color baby blankets and baby bedding crib sets are a good option if you are uncertain as to the décor of the nursery. A soft pastel in any shade will go with everything. Of course, if Mom has let you know exactly what designs she intends to use for the new baby, you will have no problem finding baby bedding to go with her selection.
You may want to purchase one of the more expensive items needed for the new baby, such as a crib or changing table. This is a particularly generous gift for first time parents on a budget. The expenses associated with a child take a little getting used to for many young parents. But, if this baby is not the first for the family and they already have all of the major items for the nursery, buying infant and baby bedding is an excellent option.
Sometimes grandparents of a soon to be baby feel a little out of the loop. They are uncertain about new trends and the tastes and the desires of the younger crowd. Don't let this stand in your way of enjoying the excitement and planning that every expectant parent feels and wants to share with those they love. Taking the time to participate open mindedly with the new mom can give you both some enjoyable time together.
While many expectant parents don't necessary want a lot of advice, they do enjoy a shopping companion and someone to participate in their excitement and planning. You may even be able to offer some sage advice and a little support along the way...that is if the door has been opened.
Otherwise sitting side by side on the couch, shopping online together, or leafing through magazines looking for nursery décor ideas, or shopping at your local mall can give you both the enjoyment of dreaming, and planning and sharing together.
